The security forces in Tuz Khurmatu district detain 30 persons for breaking a curfew aimed at containing the spread of the virus. The detentions happen at a time, when the COVID-19 preventative measures have been intensified.
Latest figures show that 27 cases of coronavirus have been confirmed and four have died in the district.
Hussein Ali, head of Tuz Khurmatu police department, told KirkukNow that, “75 per cent of people do not comply with the preventative measures… that is why we are investigating and have detained 30 persons in two days for breaching the curfew.”
Crisis Cell in Tuz Khurmatu decided to impose a total lockdown from June 26 to July 5 in its latest meeting that took place yesterday, June 25.
Jawad Mohammed, a resident of Tut Khurmatu, has been fined and his national ID has been confiscated. “I went to a pharmacy near to my house and I did not wear a mask and gloves… the security forces were present and investigated me,” Mohammed said.
Mohammed explained that a number of people were arrested at the pharmacy, where they did not wear masks and had to purchase medications.
“I cannot fully comply with the curfew, I have a family and my financial situation is bad. I cannot remain jobless,” Mohammed claimed.
Head of Tuz Khurmatu police department explained that the measures have been enforced, adding that despite detaining people, they have confiscated cars' licenses and national IDs of 20 persons. According to the instructions, each person will be fined 100 thousand Iraqi dinars (83 dollars).
In Salahuddin province, 300 cases of coronavirus have been confirmed, with 121 recoveries and 12 deaths.
In Iraq, 39 thousand and 139 cases of coronavirus have been confirmed as of now, among which 18 thousand and 51 persons have recovered and a thousand and 437 have died of the virus.
