Several pages on social networks promote the idea of eating sweets for women during menstruation, claiming it is beneficial. Some suggest that certain foods can affect whether or not bleeding stops during menstruation.

The truth

Parzhin Jalal Abdullah, a gynecologist and obstetrician, explained to KirkukNow that those who claim that consuming artificial sweets during menstruation can be beneficial is not true “It may be harmful and could lead to bloating and mental health issues."

“Natural sweets such as fruits like banana, and dark chocolate can help reduce abdominal pain and improve mood," she stated. "However, spicy and sour foods may not have a direct impact on menstruation period, but some individuals may be allergic to them, causing abdominal discomfort."

She also added, "Spicy and sour foods could potentially cause stomach pain, nausea, or bloating, especially since individuals tend to be more sensitive during menstruation."

"It is medically incorrect to claim that heat or cold can stop bleeding, as the lining of the uterus will bleed regardless. However, feeling hot or cold is a normal response to hormonal changes," she concluded.
