Using wood, Abdulla assembles a car during lockdown period
Karwan Salehi - Kirkuk

The six-months lockdown period was a good opportunity for me to do some work. I managed to assemble a car, using wood

My name is Abdulla Ahmad, they call me ‘carpenter Abdualla’. I was born in 1976. I have been a carpenter in Kirkuk for 32 years. I also repair cars as a hobby.

Being busy with my regular work, there was no time for me to repair cars. But the lockdown period in the times of the pandemic, was a good opportunity for me to practice my hobby.

During that time, at my shop in Kirkuk’s Rahimawa neighbourhood, I managed to assemble a car using wood. I finished the project a few days ago, and now drive my car around in Kirkuk without problems.

For the project, I bought an old, damaged car and stripped it down to the chassis. I bought new engine and gearbox for it, and together with one of my apprentices we crafted a body for it with wood.

I shaped the car similar to a 1953 Mercedes-Benz. I used Vex wood.

I named the car after myself. Its logo is the first letter of my name.

Many are admired by my car and take pictures of it. Others want to buy it, but it is not for sale.

If I get assistance, I can organize bigger projects.
